100 VOICES
Have you just experienced 100 VOICES?
TELL US WHAT YOU THINK
HEAR WHAT 100 people HAVE TO SAY
100 VOICES is an immersive work of sound art giving audiences the opportunity to listen to 100 people they would never normally meet.
100 people in one time, in one place.
Heard as unique individuals.
Speaking as one community in one space.
100 VOICES // The NHS
Created after five months of research, partnership and conversations with staff, patients and visitors in 12 hospitals across 4 NHS Foundation Trusts in Bristol, London, Cambridge and Preston. 100 people reflect on their daily lives and work, their challenges, joys, inspirations and losses.
The result is a unique and multi-layered snapshot, expressed directly by people rarely heard; those working in service, patients, visiting local communities and the invisible, extended workforce of the NHS.
4 PORTRAITS (four operatic songs) have been interwoven within an original musical score; each voiced by a fictional character: the midwife, porter, manager and patient.
100 VOICES lives within a specially designed structure, a birch wood cylinder, immersing audiences in 360 degree sound. 100 anonymous people are heard as individuals and also in digital transformations as a crowd, as a flock of voices, as a sonic tidal wave.

The listening experience
100 VOICES // THE NHS contains fragments of 100 conversations recorded between March and July 2023 in twelve hospitals across the country.
“We sought to represent a true cross-section of the incredible encounters we had during our time in the hospitals. The voices that we hear span age, class, race and gender, displaying the enormous range of identities, perspectives and experience that congregate under the umbrella of the NHS.”
Hannah Conway (composer) and Hazel Gould (writer)
